About the course
In the fast-paced field of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS), RePL holders are generally limited to operating within their visual line of sight. This restriction requires the operator to maintain a direct visual view of the RPA at all times, ensuring control over its position, speed, and flight direction without relying on devices or screens.
To achieve the full potential of RPAS technology, particularly for ReOC holders, an Instrument Rating Exam (IREX) or BVLOS exam is necessary to operate RPAs beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS). The BVLOS OCTA exam offers RePL holders an alternative pathway for remote pilots to extend their capabilities beyond the standard visual limits.
As the RPAS industry grows and evolves, the demand for BVLOS operations increases significantly. This course is designed to prepare RePL holders with the essential knowledge and skills to pass the BVLOS Operations Certificate Training and Assessment (OCTA) exam, thereby broadening their operational scope.
Requirements for BVLOS Operations:
- Remote pilot licence (RePL) with either:
- A pass in the CASA BVLOS Exam
- Operate under the direct supervision of an individual who holds a pass in one of the exams (refer CASA EX51/24)
- Remotely piloted aircraft operator's certificate (ReOC)
- Updated ReOC with BVLOS Operations amendments
- Flight Authorisation for specific BLOS Operations
Training Outline
- Responsibilities in maintaining separation from manned aviation.
- Understanding local, area, and aerodrome altitudes to avoid conflicts.
- Planning operations near prohibited, restricted, and danger areas.
- Aerodrome visual and instrument approach and departure procedures for crewed aircraft.
